On April 22, 2015 the workshop on disseminating the results of the project «RoUaSoil: Cross-border network Romania-Ukraine: Management of lands contaminated with petroleum products» HUSKROUA 1001/110 was held at the premises of the Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas (IFNTUOG). This project is being implemented within the framework of cross-border cooperation Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine 2007-2013 and co-financed by the European Union under the European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument (ENPI). The main purpose of the project is to create an area of shared values, stability and prosperity, enhanced cooperation and deeper economic and regional integration by covering a wide range of cooperation areas between Ivano-Frankivsk region of Ukraine, Judeţul Maramureş (Romania), Szabolcs-Szatmar-Bereg and Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén (Hungary). Project objectives: inventory, survey and analysis of objects contaminated with petroleum products within the cross-border area; planning methodologies of treatment of petroleum contaminated sites using fertilizing technologies; development of cross-border ecological network. The project started in September 2012 and ends in May 2015.
The Workshop on disseminating the results of the Romanian-Ukrainian project brought together scientists and researchers of both countries. In particular, among the participants there were public administrators, heads of oil companies, representatives of NGOs and the media.
The event began with a welcoming speech of the Vice-rector for scientific and pedagogical work Professor Oleh Mandryk. The results of the project fulfillment by Ukrainian party were presented by the Head of the Department of Ecology of IFNTUOG Prof. Yaroslav Adamenko, who is the scientific coordinator of the project from the Ukrainian side. Professor Adamenko noted the relevance of the research, because defining the frontier area of Romania and Ukraine contaminated by petroleum is an important step for the future implementation of treatment methodology according to EU directives and legal basis of the partner countries.
The general project coordinator Associate Professor of the Technical University of Cluj Napoca Annamaria Daskalesku, reported on the results of the project achieved by the Romanian partners. Colleagues from Romania conducted similar research of sites contaminated by petroleum products, and fulfilled all the objectives of the project.
The project partners discussed prospects of further cooperation by taking part in future joint projects.
