On January 21, 2015 a roundtable "The hydrocarbon sector of Ivano-Frankivsk region: Problems and Solutions", organized by the NGO "Development, Innovation and Technology Bureau" was held at the premises of the National Technical University of Oil and Gas. It brought together dozens of experts, scientists, managers, representatives of authorities and media to discuss issues related to the problems and prospects of oil and gas production in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. The event was part of the "Independent monitoring of resource and finance flows from development of conventional and unconventional hydrocarbons in Ukraine within Production Sharing Agreement", implemented with the financial support of the EU.
The roundtable talks began with the speech of the Vice-rector for research and international affairs Oleh Karpash who emphasized the importance of such activities, because the development of the energy sector in Ukraine today is important more than ever. "The Ukraine's economic growth, its energy and national security, and investment attractiveness depend on the energy sector" - said the Vice-rector. According to him, there are two ways to solve the problems of the energy complex of Ukraine: increase of production of Ukraine's own hydrocarbons, and energy efficiency and energy saving.
With financial support from the British Council IFNTUOG executes "Agreement on cooperation between Ukrainian and British universities." Within this project the delegation from the UK - a famous scientist and expert in shale gasPprofessor Kevin Taylor and Dr. Patrick Dewey (University of Manchester) - took part in the round table. Professor Taylor's speech was devoted to the British experience in exploration, drilling and extraction of shale gas.
