A world-renowned Ukrainian economist Roman Sheremeta visited the Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas. As part of his visit, he delivered a lecture to students and teachers interested in research work on "Research: How to Have One’s Paper Published in Famous International Journals".
Rector of the IFNTUOG Professor Ye. Kryzhnivskyi greeted the guest, noting that the success story of Roman Sheremeta is a great example of how to get the relevant knowledge at IFNTUOG and become a world-renowned economist. Mr. Kryzhnivskyi also noted that Ukraine's economy today needs new ideas, young economists who can bring the economy of our country to a qualitatively new level of development.
Roman Sheremeta began his lecture on information on how universities rank in the world. A well-known scientist clearly outlined the position that universities must adhere to - in order to become a competitive higher education establishment, first of all, it is necessary to improve the university’s position in international rankings. In particular, one of the ways to raise the level of Ukrainian universities is through publications in leading international journals that provide insight into world trends in science. Thus, academic activities and research of teaching staff constitute 60 % of university ranking Times Higher Education, so efforts should be focused on this issue.
Roman shared with the audience the experience of the correct publication of the international level and provided valuable advice. The first step towards success and advanced positions is the knowledge of English, which is today the language of science, because in the world ranking of universities, leading positions are occupied by countries with a high level of the English language proficiency. Equally important is the desire to work and continuously improve. Roman noted that his credo sounds like "Quickly means slow, but every day." The choice of the topic is also important, since a good paper begins with a good idea that has the potential to influence science and society. To get such ideas you need to read not only in your field, but also to participate in reading groups, where ideas are shared.
In general, the audience had a great opportunity to get valuable information on how universities are ranked in the world, what needs to be done in order to raise the university's rating, how to set up a system of incentives, funding for science, and international cooperation.
Roman Sheremeta wished students and young scientists to learn how to generate ideas, so the best companies in the world would fight for them. He noted that for success it is important to be open to change and not to be afraid of risks.
