Recently, students from the Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas (Eduard Tokach - current president of the Ivano-Frankivsk Student SPE Chapter, group NE-16-2), Sviatoslav Pylypchuk, group PS-15-1, Iryna Sushkevych, GR-16- 1) participated in the X Student Congress East Meets West 2019. A large-scale event was organized by the Student SPE Chapter of the Krakiv Mining and Metallurgical Academy.
In total, around 280 people took part in the congress, including representatives of Shell, GeoTalent, PGNiG, Lotos, members of student chapters from different countries of Europe (England, Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Norway, Ukraine, Romania, Hungary). Among the invited guests were the president of SPE International 2018 Darcy Spady, Regional Director for Southern, Central and Eastern Europe Jean-Marc Dumas, who were on an official visit to the IFNTUOG in the framework of the International Fuel Congress in 2017.
The program of the Student Congress of East Meets West 2019 was full of events. In addition to traditional events, the qualifying competitions of the PetroBowl World Petroleum and Petroleum Intellectual Games among the teams of student departments were held; competition of works and presentations of posters among bachelor and master students and doctors of philosophy; workshops; presentations of companies that sponsored the event; discussion on the role of digitalization in the oil and gas industry; a round table of members of the student chapters of the SPE, where the problems of the development of chapters and methods for their solution were discussed. Particular attention was paid to the demonstration of digital technologies by GeoTalent. Participants of the event also had an opportunity to get acquainted with Polish folklore and culture.
