Are you a IFNTUOG(or NGO BRIT)'s student, graduate or young entrepreneur aged between 18 and 35?  |  Do you dream about starting your own business one day?

If so, then this could be exactly the opportunity you’ve been looking for! The Big Idea Challenge video pitch competition is a key part of the British Council’s Creative Spark Higher Education Enterprise Programme and encourages you to develop a innovative new ‘startup’ and then to tell the world about it. So whatever your idea, we want to hear about how it solves real problems and could ‘wow’ customers. Then look at the tips to learn how to do this.

Participant eligibility

  • Individuals or teams must comprise of no more than three people.
  • English of a standard suitable for participation in English medium education programmes and presentations is required from all members of teams entering the competition.
  • The participants must be at least 18 and no older than 35 years of age.
  • The participants must be a resident in either Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
  • Competition entrants must be members of Creative Spark partner institutions (IFNTUOG or NGO BRIT).
  • Participants will usually need to have taken part in some activities offered as part of the Creative Spark programme.

Prizes

Competition winners will be awarded with prizes. This will include cash prizes 2000 GBP on national level and plus 1000 GBP on international level  in the form of business seed funding as well as professional development, marketing support, mentorship opportunities from UK universities. 

Categories

There will be three competition categories:

  • Digital Technology involves ideas involving the development and application of new software or hardware.
  • Social Impact is for Ideas that will have a positive impact on our communities and the world beyond. This could be an environmental or social idea that helps those most in need (e.g. social inclusion of disadvantaged groups, gender equality).
  • Creative is for ideas for a new product, an exhibition or a way to make the cultural environment more vibrant? Ideas that help creative people reach new audiences will also be considered in this category.

Timeline in IFNTUOG

  • Start - March 2nd 2020
  • Training(Webianar) for participant of competition (May 6st 2020, Program TBC soon)
  • Deadline in IFNTUOG(NGO BRIT) -  May 24st 2020

Selection Criteria

Tips for Pitching

  1. Start with a very strong introduction where you describe the problem you are addressing and make sure you get the audience’s attention by using a personal story or powerful statistics
  2. Describe your solution, how it solves the problem you have identified previously and how it is different from the existing competition (if any!)
  3. Portray who is affected by the problem (your customer) and find out how many individuals are affected to show how big the market is
  4. Demonstrate how your idea will make money and the potential for it
  5. Have a strong closing sentence a slogan for your idea 
  6. Practice, practice, practice!
