A well-known political scientist who has been engaged in socio-political issues for about 20 years, Oleh Bilous, vice-rector of the Ivano-Frankivsk Academy of John Chrysostom, has delivered a lecture for students of the Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas on the topic "Ukraine and NATO: non-military cooperation" . The event was organized on the initiative of the Director of the scientific and technical library Roman Puida.
Serhii Kurovets, the vice-rector of IFNTUOG greeted and introduced the guest. He noted: "The topic of Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine is especially relevant to students, because now, as never before, it is important for our state to define its role and place in the world's geopolitical space. Awareness of the youth can guarantee successful changes in the country."
The lecturer told the audience about the history of NATO's establishment and development. He noted that the cooperation of the Organization with Ukraine began in 1991. The key document of cooperation with our state is the Charter on a special partnership between Ukraine and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
The specialist explained to the students what is really understood by the terms "NATO standards" and "EU standards", which he considers to be similar. The standards that the state must meet in order to become a member of NATO and the EU, Mr. Bilous divided into four blocks:
Political (political freedom);
Economic (transparent, open economic policy);
Law Enforcement (Law enforcement agencies should serve, not punish);
Military (Most consistent with NATO standards. Today, Ukraine is the only non-NATO country that participates in all missions and operations of the Organization in the world).
