On August 31, 2014 hundreds of first-year students (freshmen), parents, professors, university staff and guests gathered at the University Stadium for the solemn matriculation ceremony.
We sympathize with the students and professors of universities of the eastern regions, who are not able to start a new academic year on September, 1 and organize matriculation at their Alma Mater. However, we must look to the future and move forward! Ukraine needs talented, patriotic and creative engineers and technicians. Energy security and sustainable development of the country should be provided by highly qualified professionals of oil and gas industry, whom our university has been training for 47 years already.
The solemn ceremony began with the raising of the national flag of Ukraine, singing of the national anthem and commemoration of the memory of the Heroes of Ukraine with a minute of silence.
Rector of the university, Prof. Evstahii Kryzhanivskyi congratulated the first-year students with the new stage of their lives and wished them a great year and all the best under the peaceful sky. Among the guests present at the matriculation ceremony were many official representatives of the town and regional administrations, heads of the Ukrainian oil and gas companies and Archbishop-Metropolitan of Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.
After the Rector’s speech, ninety IFNTUOG graduates were granted European Master diplomas of AGH University of Science and Technology (Krakow, Poland) according to cooperation agreements between universities.
The matriculation ceremony itself took the format of theatrical performance, involving the Greek goddess of wisdom Athene, the Oil Queen and other characters. Talented Ukrainian as well as international students took an active part in the ceremony, singing, dancing and playing musical instruments.
