Project summary - "Energising the creative economy"

Our project “Energising the creative economy” is focused around creative and entrepreneurial skills’ development to support the creative economy and wider societal entrepreneurial development.

We address the key conclusion of the EU-Eastern Partnership Programme (EUEPP) that a broader vision for creative industries is needed in Ukraine including a wider adoption of creativity in the economy.

Specifically we will develop and transfer innovation between economic sectors within the Ukraine to infuse the creative economy with wider experience and skills consequently as the EUEPP identifies with the capacity to export.

We’ll achieve this by adopting a transformational approach to Ukrainian entrepreneurial education and development through teaching delivery and hub development.  We’ll use the project as a catalyst stimulate links between creative sector and wider economy - developing a hub as inclusive but not exclusive to the creative economy and addressing the fragmentation of the existing creative hubs’ community identified by EUEPP.

We’ll reinforce the sustainability of the creative economy sector through the development of a greater pool of creative entrepreneurs able to move between creative and wider economy infusing and reinforcing both.  This directly engages with further recommendations from the EUEPP around alliance building within CCIs and strengthening ICT sector links.

Rooting the project within the established structures of IFNTUOG allows us to link the creative economy with established industrial strengths and existing business advice and infrastructure support.  This will ensure project sustainability, whilst using ICTE’s expertise to grow a distinctive creative economy element

The NGO BRIT provides a connecting link direct to communities that might otherwise be excluded including around gender issues by hosting a number of master-classes and webinars.  This will allow us to address the need identified by EUEPP for a growing role of civil society in the activation of communities and decentralisation and democratisation of cultural access.

We’ll use a “train-the-trainer” approach – when ICTE staff will train IFNTUOG staff.  Educational materials will be retained by IFNTUOG for further use and dissemination ensuring long-term sustainability and continuous dissemination of knowledge.

Training will be mainly oriented towards new business start-ups based around innovations and knowledge (creative economy) among university staff and alumnis.  We will create and develop a training course “Entrepreneurship for Creative Economy” with Coventry. This course will be mainly delivered to masters and PhD students and young (25-35 years) staff and be based in the innovation hub for cross sector exchange.  MOOCs will be used for wide coverage and sustainable dissemination.

Our approach fuses creative and entrepreneurial thinking facilitation hand in hand with hub and wider ecosystem development with benefits for Coventry of cross-sector innovation learning.
