History of the department

        The history of the department begins its activities from the time of the functioning of the university. The first head of the department (1961-1965) was docent Morgart Roman Mikhailovich. He worked at the department until 1991, was one of the best methodologists of our university, аn unsurpassed lecturer, author of manuals and methodological work to improve and deepen the systematic training of students on this subject. These achievements are still not outdated and they are used by the teachers of the department. Besides him аt that time there worked docent S.S. Lisnyak, teachers P.M. Melnik, M.Y. Rogovik and other.

         Later after that the department was headed by docent Lisnyak Semen Stepanovich (1965-1976). He developed at the department the direction of chemistry of non-stoichiometric compounds. He is the author of the idea of rating mark of students’ knowledge. Аt that time there worked docent  S.I. Soloviev, and teacher A.G.Chervinko, assistants R. F. Kontsur, L. M. Tulchinskaya, V. Y. Ferkuniak, M. V. Folta, G. A. Filatova. Since 1976, the department is headed by Melnyk Petrо Mikhailovich. He actively worked in the field of communication science with production, was the head of many contracts that were significant in economics.

          In such a team the Department of Chemistry worked until the early 90's.

          In 1971 the department moved into a new building on the str. Carpathian, 15, where is currently.

        Much of the department's work at that time has the research sector. In parallel with the research  work there worked scientific employees V. Y. Kovalov, V. V. Titov, who finished post-graduate school in Moscow and successfully defended there Ph.D.

         Great help in preparation in laboratory work is provided by specialists Vasily Soup, Lyudmila Kulayets,  Nadiya Bandura.

       Since 1976 the department is headed by docent Melnik Petro Mikhailovich. At this time the Department of Petrochemical Synthesis with the Department of General and Inorganic Chemistry unite. Docents of the department become B. M. Gutsulyak, assistant Z. L. Novitsky, sciences. employee R. S. Petrovsky.

         Docent Boris Mikhailovich Gutsulyak - a man of encyclopedic knowledge, worked throughout his life and works towards the problems of organic chemistry. In 1964 he became a candidate of chemical sciences, and in March 1990 - a doctor of chemical sciences. He has prepared a number of candidates of chemical sciences: Romanko Petro Dmitrievich, Melnyk Maria Vasylivna, Novitsky Zenovoy Leonidovich, Yadloch Oksana Mikhailovna.

          Boris Mikhailovich besides professor's post at the department, worked as a professor at the Ivano-Frankivsk State Medical Academy, and also a professor at the Department of Theoretical and Applied Chemistry of the Vasyl Stefanyk’ Precarpathian National University. He is a member of many scientific, international and Ukrainian conferences, a member of the Ukrainian National Commission on Ukrainian Chemical Terminology and Nomenclature.

          The head of the department is in 1991 became docent Romanko P.D. At this time to the team of department came M.V. Melnyk, O.D. Melnyk, L.I. Chelyadin, they later become docents of the department, and in 2011, L.I. Chelyadin defended his doctoral dissertation. At this time the department developed and implemented the rating system of knowledge assessment. It became widespread at all faculties of the university.

          At the end of the 90’s employees of the department became Poberezhny Lyubomyr Yaroslavovich and Kalin Tatyana Ivanivna. They successfully defended their PhD dissertations, and in 2009, L.Ya. Poberezhny defended his doctoral dissertation and became one of the youngest professors in university.

          Since 2000 started work at the department Miroslava Stepanivna Polutrenko as a docent. She was  engaged in scientific and teaching work. She prepared and defended her doctoral dissertation.

         Since September, 2012 he heads the Department of Chemistry. Now at the department besides M.S. Polutrenko, are engaged in scientific and teaching work scientists: docents O.D. Melnyk, T.I. Kalin, prof. L. Y. Poberezhny, L.I. Chelyadyn.   Creation of educational and scientific base is carried now by employees V.V. Soup, L.G. Kulayets, N.P. Bandura. 

          At the department created a creative atmosphere.

          Cooperation with many scientific schools of Ukraine and abroad is continuing, cooperation with the Institute of postgraduate training of chemist's specialists is supported. The staff of the department try to transfer knowledge and skills to students. The department cooperates with many Ukrainian and overseas  scientific schools, is carried cooperates with Institute of postgraduate training of chemist's specialists.
